There is a wide range of soils that we deal with on a day to day basis. The most common cleaning task is removing everyday dirt from a surface or fiber by using a general purpose cleaner and a rag. These are the types of spray and wipe cleaners that are often found at the grocery or dollar store. Although there are more efficient and cost-effective ways to do this, in most cases the results will be similar. The game changes significantly however when body fluids or potentially harmful bacteria are introduced. We are now talking about the health and well-being of the people around the soil. In these cases, a quality enzyme based chemical is often the way to go.
When dealing with organic wastes such as vomit or urine, or long-standing water spots on concrete floors, a quality enzyme such as PowerZYME E is often your best bet. These products will actually digest the waste material and counteract odors as well as preventing future odors. It is important to mix enzymes with the indicated amount of warm water (not hot) and to allow the diluted solution sufficient time to multiply and to completely digest the waste. For tougher spots, apply the enzyme liberally and then cover with a warm, damp towel and a black garbage liner or plastic tarp. By keeping the area warm, dark and damp you are providing the enzyme an ideal environment to continue working for hours.
For best results, apply the enzyme and let it work overnight. In many situations you should rinse the area with clean, warm water the next day and reapply the enzyme. The trick is to completely remove any trace of the biological waste from the area, eliminating any threat of illness.
